Embark on a 6-day, 5-night Hanoi Ha Giang Cao Bang adventure, combining spectacular mountain landscapes, fascinating ethnic cultures, and authentic local experiences. Travel comfortably by private car from Hanoi to Ha Giang and Cao Bang, explore the legendary Ma Pi Leng Pass, cruise along the Nho Que River, discover traditional craft villages, and admire the magnificent Ban Gioc Waterfall. Along the way, stay in local homestays, meet ethnic communities, and uncover some of northern Vietnam’s most remarkable hidden gems.
Your tour guide and private driver will pick you up from your hotel lobby at 7:30 AM and drive toward Ha Giang, arriving at approximately 1:30 PM.
After checking in at your homestay in Thon Tha Village, enjoy some free time to explore the peaceful surroundings. Take a walk through the village, meet local families, and discover traditional Tay village life. If you are feeling active, you can also trek to Ha Thanh Waterfall and enjoy the beautiful mountain scenery.
Spend your first night of the Hanoi Ha Giang Cao Bang tour at a comfortable local bungalow.
After breakfast, continue your northern Vietnam adventure toward the spectacular Quan Ba Twin Mountains and Heaven’s Gate, where you can enjoy panoramic views over the surrounding valleys and limestone peaks.
Continue to the H’Mong King’s Palace, a historic residence built for the H’mong royal family during the French colonial period. Its distinctive combination of European and Chinese architectural influences makes it one of the most fascinating cultural sites in the region.
Continue north to the Lung Cu National Flag Tower, one of the most iconic landmarks in northern Vietnam. Located close to the Chinese border, the tower offers sweeping views across the rugged landscape and provides an insight into the region’s historical and cultural significance.
Overnight at a hotel in Dong Van Town.
After breakfast, head toward the legendary Ma Pi Leng Pass, one of the most spectacular mountain passes in Vietnam. Stop along the way to admire the dramatic limestone landscape and enjoy lunch with a local family.
Before the boat trip, warm up with a trek along the scenic Sky Path, following a mountain trail toward a Flower H’mong village and viewpoints overlooking Ma Pi Leng. Walking through this rugged landscape offers a closer look at how local communities have adapted to life among the steep mountains.
In the afternoon, weather permitting, your driver and guide will take you toward Meo Vac for a memorable boat trip along the Nho Que River. Afterward, visit a traditional Lo Lo village before continuing to Bao Lac Town for your overnight stay.
Note: During periods of heavy rainfall, the Nho Que River may experience high water levels or flooding, making the boat trip unsafe. In such circumstances, we will replace the boat trip with a walk along the Sky Path and a visit to a White H’mong village on Ma Pi Leng Peak.
Be ready at 7:45 AM for another exciting day of your Hanoi Ha Giang Cao Bang journey. Today involves a longer drive, with several cultural stops along the way.
First, visit Khuoi Khon, a traditional Lo Lo village, where you can interact with local residents and learn about their distinctive culture, traditional houses, and rural lifestyle.
Continue to Phuc Sen Village, famous for its traditional Nung blacksmithing craft. Generations of local artisans have preserved this traditional metalworking heritage, making the village an interesting stop for travelers interested in local craftsmanship.
Next, discover the traditional incense-making craft of the Nung people in Phia Thap Village. Learn how handmade incense is produced and discover how this craft continues to play an important role in local spiritual traditions.
Before checking into your accommodation, visit Nguom Ngao Cave, one of Cao Bang’s most impressive natural attractions. Explore its spectacular limestone formations and underground chambers before continuing to your homestay.
Spend the night in Khuoi Ky Village, famous for its traditional stone houses, stone fences, mills, and other structures built from locally sourced stone.
After breakfast, continue to Ban Gioc Waterfall, one of the most spectacular waterfalls in Vietnam. Set among the limestone mountains of Trung Khanh, the waterfall forms a dramatic natural landscape along the Vietnam–China border.
Enjoy time around the waterfall and, when conditions allow, take a boat trip for a closer view of the cascading water and surrounding scenery.
Next, visit Phat Tich Truc Lam Ban Gioc Pagoda, located on Phia Nham Mountain near Ban Gioc Waterfall. From the pagoda, enjoy panoramic views across the waterfall, surrounding mountains, and countryside.
Before continuing to Cao Bang City, stop at Mat Than Mountain, also known as Holy Eye Mountain. The mountain is famous for its distinctive natural opening through the limestone peak. The surrounding valley offers peaceful views of green fields, mountains, and seasonal lakes.
Continue to Cao Bang City for your final overnight stay.
